A Unique (and Delicious) Way to Connect With Neighbors

With such a large Guatemalan population here in Morganton, there are some seriously talented Guatemalan cooks!  Little Guatemala gives local Guatemalans a platform to share their culinary skills by providing the commercial kitchen equipment and overseeing regulations, while each individual has the flexibility to prepare and sell their specialty dishes at small posts resembling food carts (not trucks!) like you might see around the streets of Guatemala.  Visitors can engage the cooks themselves to ask about their dishes and form relationships over food!  You will love watching and hearing the corn tortillas get patted out by hand! 

The selection will vary, but here are some general ideas of what you can expect for meal options:

Breakfast: 

  • Sandwiches with beans, eggs, chile relleno 
  • Eggs served all kinds of ways
  • Fresh Fruit and Yogurt
  • Guatemalan Oatmeal
  • Atoles (thick and warm breakfast drinks)
  • Rellenitos (plantains dough filled with beans) or other plantain dishes

Lunch: 

  • Shukos (loaded street hot dogs)
  • Tamales
  • Chicken or Beef Soup
  • Tostadas
  • Guatemalan enchilada (very different from Mexican enchilada)
  • Taquitos

Dinner: 

  • Garnachas (Pork tips)
  • Longanizas (thick sausages)
  • Think steaks with grilled potatoes
  • Fried or grilled Chicken with fries
  • Vegetable salads

Desserts or Special Season Carts:

  • Ice Cream
  • Shaved Ice (with fruit and other toppings)
  • Tres Leches
